On July 16, 1945 the first nuclear bomb was detonated the test site was called Trinity Site. The explosion created a crater which was about 2,400 feet across and equals up to 20,000 TNT.The Gadget also created a green glassy water named Trinitite. The Manhattan project produced 3 atomic bombs, the first bomb was named “Gadget” and was used as the first test model but due to the expenses and slow creation of the “Gadget” no further tests were made. After the Gadget, The Manhattan Project produced two more atomic bombs named “Little Boy” and “Fat Man.” Little Boy was dropped and detonated over the city of Hiroshima and Fat Man was dropped and detonated over the city of Nagasaki.
The Trinity's Bomb site has a radiation of 10 times higher that the natural background radiation. The test site was closed to the public for many years and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
